Yes definitive Senate with qualifying degree. Mass: “Attention to young people returns”

The Senate has said its definitive and unanimous yes to the law for qualifying degrees which makes the final exam of the university course coincide with the state exam of dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and psychology. A go-ahead for the law proposed by the Minister of University and Research, Maria Cristina Messa, which actually implements one of the reform measures envisaged by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. “This is the sign that attention to young people is really returning to the protagonist in the country”, commented Messa. And the applause also comes from the Italian Rectors. “With the qualifying degree we overcome an ancient obstacle” observed the Rector of the Federico II University of Naples, Matteo Lorito, in conversation with the Adnkronos. The qualifying degree, Lorito argued, “is an important innovation and the Federico II of Naples is already ready to welcome this innovation already tested during the Covid emergency with the degree in medicine. But now we are also ready for the other courses” . So a first tangible step in the change of course that promises to impress the PNRR. The Plan “is a promise for young people” and these investments “will give great impetus also to the South” so much so that the Federico II University of Naples, in the first steps of the PNRR “was very fast” and “has already made the tenders for 400 new places for young researchers and doctoral students “said Rector Lorito. And there is “optimism” in his words, especially towards young people who are at the center of Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s assurances that the government will not ‘leave them behind’ once again. At the head of the major southern university, Lorito argues that “we are now in the midst of the start of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, a plan that is a great opportunity and is above all a ‘booster’ for the economy and a large number of sectors” . The Pnrr “is however a promise addressed to young people because it does not go to solve today’s problems but must restart the economy” by solving yesterday’s problems, underlines the Magnificent Rector of Frederick. The NPRR has a strong impact on “training and research” because the Plan “must serve to create structures that must be capable of self-sustaining” and all this, he observes, “has given rise to a new series of paradigms”. “We are used to doing ‘a lot with little’ in research but now – Lorito points out – the funds from the NRP are doubling the funds that Italy has always spent on research and that see us as the last in Europe”. The Rector believes that the “first paradigm innovation” that the PNRR introduces is the new capacity that “now university structures must have: learning to work together, to work on the Italian system and on programs of national interest”. Rector Lorito recalls that “over 40 national structures will be created, including national centers, ecosystems, infrastructure networks and public-private partnerships”. Structures, he indicates, that in the academic world “will have the function of connecting the national fabric while ecosystems will act at a territorial level”. And Federico II is already doing its part in this long march of the PNRR. “We were very fast, at the beginning of this PNRR path, last August, about 400 more positions for young researchers or PhDs than we had before” and the “calls have already been made”. These are “400 new jobs for young people, with funding that will have the function of connecting not only research activity but also training related to research”. With this path, “we had to put on the plate 400 projects between Stem degrees and Humanities degrees and combine all these projects with the digital transition and green transformation”. The important aspect according to Lorito “is that this new paradigm will have to take into account the multidisciplinarity which, this time, will have to be concrete: in short, it will have to become a fundamental asset for training as well as for research”. But not only. Finally, an aspect that Lorito is particularly keen to underline is that all the boys who will conquer these 400 positions in the university “will also have to spend a period of at least 6 months in a company”, effectively shortening the distance between the world of training and the world of work. .
