A path with precise objectives for 2030 and, above all, a law on the climate: Italy has what it takes to become one of the European locomotives of the green economy. The Italian green economy can in fact take a big step forward in the next decade thanks to decarbonisation and the circular economy; the European Green Deal plan and the resources of the NRP; to the new opportunities for innovation and investment, thus strengthening and relaunching important productive sectors of national goods and services. These are the themes at the center of the tenth edition of the States General of the green economy that will open today in Rimini in the frame of Ecomondo-Key Energy, with an eye to the challenges of the next 10 years. The two green days is organized by the National Council of the Green Economy, made up of 68 business organizations, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the European Commission and with the technical support of the Foundation for Sustainable Development. The roadmap proposed by the States General for 2030 provides for: approving a law for climate protection to increase the pace in measures for climate neutrality, double renewables from 20 to 40% and cut fossil fuel consumption by 40% by 2030 , introduce adaptation measures, actively involve cities in achieving climate targets; enhance and develop Italy’s potential for the circular economy and recycling by binding at least 50% of the resources of the NRP to support the design and innovation of production processes and products in a circular direction, simplify End of waste procedures and promote use of recycled materials. And again: accelerate the decarbonisation of transport by increasing investments for local public transport, discouraging the use of private cars in the city and approving a framework law for shared mobility; support the ecological transition of agriculture; approve the law for the protection of the soil; improve the protection and enhancement of natural capital and make up for Italy’s delays in digitization to support the ecological transition. This proposal is all the more urgent in view of the next COP26 on climate in Glasgow.
