The police president should be elected by the Minister of the Interior, said Sulík – PRAVDA.sk

The police president should be elected by the Minister of the Interior, not by members of parliament. The coalition council agreed. This was stated by the Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Richard Sulík (SaS) in Sunday’s discussion program TA3 V Politike.

Sulík thinks that the position of police president needs to be politicized. “Let the Minister of the Interior elect a police president and then we will demand full responsibility from him,” Sulík said.

The referendum should also be allowed to shorten the election period, Sulík claims, saying that it is his personal opinion, not the opinion of the SaS. She does not yet have an opinion on this, the liberals are due to comment soon. “However, we have a coalition agreement that is in force, and it says that we will not vote for opposition proposals,” he explained. He also noted that talk of early elections irritated him. They fully support the premiere of Eduard Heger (OĽANO), added Sulík.

According to the chairman of the non-parliamentary Voice-SD Petr Pellegrini, it is necessary to amend the constitution so that it is in line with the ruling of the Constitutional Court. He thinks that if the people give politicians power, they should be able to take it away at any time.

Sulík will not be with Matovič in the future government

According to Sulík, SaS cannot imagine cooperation with Hlas-SD, Smer-SD and ĽSNS in the future. The Minister of Economy also announced that he would not sit with Igor Matovič (OĽANO) in the future government. Nevertheless, OĽANO is a natural partner for liberals, according to Sulík. He can imagine cooperation with Progressive Slovakia. Pellegrini said that he is not yet considering cooperation only with ĽSNS.

According to Pellegrini, the President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová, exposed “quite a critical mirror to the governing coalition” in her statement in the parliament. At the same time, he thinks she could have been more forceful in her statements. Sulík welcomes the fact that Čaputová is entering coalition-opposition processes and parliamentary politics. According to the chairman of Hlas-SD, the president chose the people for the meeting correctly, Sulík respects her choice.

Both discussants also commented on the working group working to address the restoration of confidence in the rule of law. Sulík believes that the results of the working group will be sufficient. “I think it’s right that he’s sitting down, and let him find the best solutions with a cool head,” he said. According to Pellegrini, such a commission is not needed at all.
