Ilava Hospital received a sentence for the death of a child – SME

The child was on the Ilava emergency room twice and then died suddenly. The Regional Court in Trenčín upheld the judgment according to which the hospital should pay non-pecuniary damage to the child’s parents.

ILAVA. The Regional Court in Trenčín upheld the judgment, according to which the Hospital with a polyclinic in Ilava is to pay 80 thousand euros to parents for the death of a child. The doctor, who served in the emergency room on the fateful day, was acquitted. However, the court admitted to the hospital that the child’s parents had caused permanent harm.

They were on call and he died anyway

The tragedy happened more than ten years ago. The child was with his parents twice in the outpatient clinic of the first aid medical service for children with a severe course of respiratory disease. At home, the boy died suddenly. The doctor treating the child was found guilty by the court of first instance. However, the Slovak Medical Union of Specialists stood up for the doctor and issued an expert opinion, where they questioned the accusations. After the appeal, the regional court in Trenčín finally acquitted the doctor from the Ilava hospital.
