Mental health: a toll-free number, 31 14, launched on Friday for “all French people”, announces Olivier V – Franceinfo

“For the first time, there will be a telephone number that all French people can contact, it will be 31 14”, announced Olivier Véran, Minister of Health, Wednesday, September 29 on France Inter, in the aftermath of the Assises for Mental Health and Psychiatry.

“It will be open from Friday and it will allow French people who are going through a very difficult time, sometimes with dark thoughts, morbid thoughts, sadness (…) to be able to immediately find an answer to their discomfort. By contacting this number, they come across psychiatric professionals “, specifies the Minister.

This toll-free number will be open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Olivier Véran recalls that “suicide is the second cause of death among young people in our country after road accidents”. “It’s a project that starts from afar. Maybe it sounds like a phone number like that”, in fact, says the minister, “the time for training, identification, financing of all the professionals who will respond to the distress of the French, it starts from very far”. According to the minister, “it is a new important step in the fight and the prevention of suicide”.
