Environment: the Atlantic forest, the other forest ecosystem in Brazil at risk

The associations for the defense of the Atlantic forest are sounding the alarm because the first Brazilian primary forest has almost disappeared and faces, like the Amazon rainforest, formidable threats. The “Mata Atlantica” once stretched along the Atlantic coast, over a million square kilometers. A victim of agricultural expansion and urban development, it covers only 12% of its original territory. It is also facing an unprecedented drought.
