LIVERPOOL – At the age of 83, the English football world champion of 1966 and one of the best shooters in the history of Liverpool, Roger Hunt, died. The club said the former striker had succumbed to a long illness.

Hunt scored 285 goals in 492 competitive games for Liverpool and Ian Rush only surpassed this balance in the 1990s. However, his 244 league goals remained a club record. With “Reds” he won league titles in 1964 and 1966, when he also became world champion.

At the domestic championship, Hunt played six matches, including the winning final against the then West Germany, and scored three goals. He had a total of 34 matches and 18 goals in the national team.
