Covid vaccine, the study: after 6 months antibodies decrease but protect

Six months after the completion of the Covid vaccine cycle, 99% of the healthcare workers at the Niguarda hospital in Milan still had a good presence of antibodies in the circulation. And although there was indeed a physiological drop in IgG antibodies (immunoglobulin G), only 0.4% contracted the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus, 9 out of 10 asymptomatically. These are some salient data that emerged from the Renaissance 6-month study. The staff of the Milanese structure took center stage. The analysis of the serum of 2,179 operators who participated in the research aimed at evaluating the immune response to the anti-Covid vaccine in the long term (from 14 days to 1 year) shows that among the few (1%) who do not show a detectable response , some from the beginning, there are also people with a clinical condition of immunosuppression. Renaissance is the first study launched in Italy and one of the largest in Europe in terms of case studies, explained by Niguarda. All participants completed the vaccination course between January and February 2021, with Pfizer / BioNTech’s Comirnaty * vaccine. “With the first two analyzes, ie 14 days and 3 months after vaccination, we observed an antibody response in about 99% of the vaccinated”, recalls Francesco Scaglione, director of the Niguarda chemical analysis and microbiology laboratory. The serological studies after 6 months confirm that in the same percentage of vaccinated antibodies are still present in a good quantity. In these 6 months, the average antibody titre naturally dropped. In particular, the reduction curve was sharper and faster in the first 3 months (between 14 days and 3 months the decline was about 70%) and slower and more gradual in the subsequent period (about 45%).
