BOSTON – The European team’s tennis players led the rest of the world 3: 1 after the first day of the 2021 Laver Cup in Boston. The first point for the European team was scored in TD Garden by Norór Casper Ruud, who defeated the American American Reilly Opelka 6: 3, 7: 6 (4).

The Italian Matteo Berrettini and the Russian Andrej Rubľov added another two points in singles. The selection of the world only managed to reduce the situation in doubles on Friday, when John Isner and Denis Shapovalov won over the duo Berrettini, Alexander Zverev 4: 6, 7: 6 (2), 10: 1.

The fourth year of the Laver Cup started without big names, for the first time the tournament must be done without a complete “big three” Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Federer, who initiated the Laver Cup and is its co-owner, is, like Nadal, still among the injured. Djokovic refused to participate in the tournament after an extremely demanding course of the season.
