Hygienists warn of dangerous cosmetic products – cream and wet wipes – ŽENA.PRAVDA.SK

The Public Health Office of the Slovak Republic (ÚVZ SR) draws attention to four dangerous products.

Products have been reported to the Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) by the control authorities in Austria and Cyprus. In three cases, it is a stoich pack of wet wipes from Optimal from Albania.

Tests have revealed that wet wipes containing aloe vera, lavender and chamomile from the manufacturer contain a mixture of preservatives containing methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone, which are in conflict with the list of preservatives allowed in cosmetic products in European Union countries. These preservatives are not mentioned by the manufacturer on the product packaging. According to hygienists, the products could cause an allergic reaction in sensitive people.

Sonnencreme SolarTea Bio sunscreen in a 100 ml package from the Italian manufacturer SolarTea was also reported to the system. It is offered in some e-shops. Based on the analyzes, it was found that the sunscreen actually contains a lower sun protection factor than the manufacturer declares on the packaging. Therefore, consumers may be misled by the claim that the product provides high protection and is suitable for people with sensitive and fair skin. Such people are particularly sensitive to sunburn and therefore prefer products with a high or very high level of protection. The user may not be sufficiently protected against UV radiation, which increases the risk of sunburn or skin cancer.
