Mikulec held the vote and will remain in the position of Minister of the Interior – PRAVDA.sk

Minister of the Interior Roman Mikulec (OĽANO) remains in office. Members of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic did not recall him. Of the 136 deputies present, 52 were in favor and 69 against, 14 abstained and one did not vote. Mikulca was supported by a majority of the government coalition, several deputies from the Sme rodina club abstained.

Mikulca’s appeal was initiated by the opposition Smer. On Thursday, Smer leader Robert Fico justified his intention to remove Mikulca from office by saying that the Ministry of the Interior does not manage professionally and ethically and that information has been manipulated for months by National Criminal Agency (NAKA) investigators.

During a debate in the plenary session of the parliament, Minister Mikulec said that a corruption squid was systematically uncovered, whose “tentacles have reached the highest levels for years”. Although the information we gradually learn sounds threatening, we must continue what we have promised the citizens, despite all the inconveniences, “Mikulec emphasized.

The coalition has 92 votes out of 150 in the parliament. At least 76 members were needed to dismiss the minister. The opposition, even with non-attached deputies, has 58 votes.

Mikulec’s appeal was repeatedly proposed by the opposition several times, but the proposals were postponed due to the obstruction of the coalition.

The deputies of the National Council of the Slovak Republic started on Friday the sixth day of the 40th meeting with a package of amendments to laws from the workshop of the Ministry of Finance. At the beginning of the day, they were introduced to the plenary by the Minister of Finance Igor Matovič (OĽANO).
