BUFFALO – Striker Jack Eichel did not undergo a medical examination in front of the Buffalo hockey players’ training camp, and the club’s management took away his position as captain, which he had held since 2018.

The 24-year-old has been having problems with his cervical spine, which has a popped plate, since March. He cannot agree with his employer on how to deal with the situation. Eichel prefers a different type of operation than recommended by club doctors.

“We will continue to look for solutions,” said Buffalo general manager Kevyn Adams. If they do not find common ground, Eichel is in danger of starting the season on the list of long-term injured players. The first consequence for Eichel has already come, he will not be the captain. “From our point of view and from my point of view, the captain is the heart of the team. We already know this situation from the past and we felt that we had to deal with it and we decided that way.” said Adams.

Eichel, who Buffalo chose as the number two in the draft draft in 2015, has an eight-year contract with the club for $ 80 million valid until 2026.
