Prime Minister Heger on a special working group meeting! – Pluska.sk

Heger expects the first concrete proposals of the working group to restore confidence in the rule of law as early as this week. The group has problems identifying, analyzing and proposing solutions. He said this on Monday (September 20), when the group met for the first time. “The government is fully aware of and respects the procedural autonomy of law enforcement agencies. However, if it turns out that systemic changes are needed to improve the quality of justice, the government is ready to make them.” declared prime minister.

The nominees in the working group are the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, Interior, Finance, Defense, the Environment, as well as Investment, Regional Development and Informatization, and Justice. The meeting is also attended by representatives of the Prime Minister, the Slovak Information Service, the National Security Office, the Specialized Criminal Court, the Council of Prosecutors of the Slovak Republic, the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic and the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic. According to Heger, the group is unprecedented in its expertise.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office is not represented in the group, although its boss Daniel Lipšic was originally supposed to join the group. The Prime Minister confirmed the media information that Lipšic’s participation was not approved by Attorney General Maroš Žilinka. Only the Prosecutor General’s Office, which nominated Barbora Hubertová, is represented. “Due to the nature of the bodies of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic as a unified system of state bodies, one representative was authorized to represent the prosecutor’s office and present a unified opinion,” Dalibor Skladan, a spokesman for the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic, explained for TASR.

The Prime Minister confirmed that the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic and the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic refused to participate. He noted that they approached them for their practical experience and to speed up processes. There is no fear that experts will be discredited by participating in the group.
