You can’t call it anything but shame. Mayor of Bratislava reacts to the missing junction of the D1 and D4 motorways – PRAVDA.sk

The fact that the new motorway bypass (D4 / R7) will not be directly connected to the D1 motorway is a huge failure of the state in the preparation and implementation of this project in previous years. This was announced by the mayor of Bratislava Matúš Vallo. It thus responded to the margin of the unfinished intersection of the D1 and D4 motorways.

The mayor claims that at least five years ago it was known that this key interconnection would not be realized within one contract with the rest of the D4 / R7 project. According to him, it is incomprehensible that the implementation of this connection began to procure only at the end of this summer.

It declares that, although the effects of the new bypass are directly related to transport in Bratislava, the capital has had virtually no and no influence on this project under the direction of the National Motorway Company (NDS) and the Ministry of Transport. “Nevertheless, we are ready to help the state to rehabilitate this problem so that the missing connection of the two highways can be connected as quickly as possible. It is an absolute priority for Bratislava, “said the mayor.

From the point of view of the Bratislava self-government, the decisive criterion for further progress in connection with the completion of the motorway interconnection is the time of implementation. Vallo claims that the municipality will be part of working groups with the Ministry of Transport, the NDS and the Bratislava self-governing region and will support all appropriate options to accelerate the project. “It would certainly be a benefit if the new connectors were handed over for use gradually, immediately after completion and in the order of importance for relieving Bratislava from transit,” Vallo remarked.

According to the city, however, it is clear that the full relief of traffic in Bratislava thanks to the new bypass is still the music of the future. However, according to the mayor, the connected sections of the new D4 bypass can be at least to some extent beneficial without the main connection. “With the appropriate introduction of a toll for freight transport on the D1 in the city, theoretically a significant part of transit traffic could be redirected from Jaroviec to Trnava on the D4 to the new R7 and vice versa, which could relieve Einsteinova street and the Port Bridge,” he explained.

However, this transit would have to be connected back to the current D1 just behind the Port Bridge on the so-called Prievoz roundabout. “The Ministry of Transport and the NDS must assess whether this level crossing can handle such a volume of traffic,” said the mayor of Bratislava.
