Heroic 2021, a record already in the numbers: up to now there are over 8,500 registered in the vintage bike race in Gaiole in Chianti, never so many in the 25 years of life of the race on the white roads of Tuscany. Probably due to the cancellation of the 2020 edition for Covid, but in fact the onslaught of cyclists, some also from Australia, forced the organization to spread the 2021 edition over two days, Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October. Another novelty: for the first time the race passes from the iconic Piazza del Campo di Siena, with the full – and rare – agreement of the Sienese districts that clash there for the Palio and are notoriously jealous of the ‘sacredness’ of the place. In addition to the very distant Australians, from overseas there are cyclists from the United States, Argentina, Canada and the Bahamas, and many from the countries of Europe: especially Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, France, Austria, Belgium, Holland but also Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland, Spain, Denmark and Hungary. “Large data in hand, without the need for statistical purposes, allow the synthesis that L’Eroica knows no crisis or borders – underlines Brocc -. Over 8 thousand members, almost 1000 women, 35% of foreigners with about 900 Germans, the colony clearly more present. There is no examination by age but certainly the generational change is underway and more and more young people come to measure themselves against a world whose charm arrives and strikes, sets a trend. Pedaling through the streets of one of the most beautiful cities in the world will be beautiful. We will do it with the grace and smile of heroic cyclists, linked to time, traditions and the beauty of life. Saturday 2 Oct obre there will be only one passage of the cyclists of the two longer routes. The scheduled time is from 5.50 to 9.40. Cyclists will enter the city from Porta Pispini, will travel along via di Pantaneto, will cross piazza del Campo and will leave Porta Romana. On Sunday 3 October the historic center of Siena will be interested in the passage of cyclists from 8.20 to 10.30. We will invite cyclists to stop at the refreshment point, with coffee and dessert, which will be set up near the Torre del Mangia. “In L’Eroica 2021, therefore, we will participate in two days: on Saturday 2 October the cyclists enrolled in the two most demanding routes, 209 and 135 kilometers starting at 4.30, for those who will participate in the saddle of a bicycle built before 1930. Immediately after, that is at 5.00 in the morning, therefore still in pitch black conditions, all the others will start. Sunday 3 October, at a more convenient time, it will be the turn of the cyclists of the other three routes available; 46, 81 and 106 kilometers.
