(CNN) – In a remote place on an island in Croatia, they found a woman who has no memory of who she is or how she got there.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s, received medical assistance after she was found on September 12 on the island of Krk in northern Croatia, according to a statement sent by local police to CNN on Monday.

Police, who circulated a photo of the woman, said she is of medium build and is approximately 1.65 meters tall. She has shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes.

“He speaks English, but he does not remember his identity,” police said. “He is currently in the hospital and is in stable condition,” he added.

Several people have responded to the call of the Police, but the identity of the woman remains a mystery.

The woman was seen on the shore by a man who was in a boat. He was the one who raised the alarm, according to local media 24 Sata.

Fourteen members of Croatia’s mountain rescue service were able to reach her after driving and then walking about a kilometer and a half to where she was, officials told the outlet.

“On the shore we found a woman with minor injuries. She also had some scratches and was extremely dehydrated and emaciated. She could barely drink a few sips of water,” 24 Sata said, citing the service.

“We put her on a stretcher because she couldn’t walk, and we took her to the hospital,” the rescue service added.

The woman did not know where she came from or how she got to the island.

He had no documents or a mobile phone, and there was no car nearby, the service told 24 Sata.

The outlet cited locals who said that the area where the woman was found was very rocky and practically inaccessible by sea or on foot.

Krk is the largest of the Adriatic islands in Croatia and a popular destination for visitors to the country.
