Elections Russia, Putin party wins

United Russia won 49.42% of the list votes, which elect half of the deputies of the Duma in Russia. The result is the result of the ballot of 80.1 percent of the votes, the Central Electoral Commission announced. The Communist Party is at 19.28 per cent, the Liberal Democrats at 7.55. The Party of Just Russia at 7.3 per cent and New People, the fifth party to join the Duma, at 5.37. According to the still preliminary results of the poll, the ruling United Russia party retains a two-thirds majority in the Duma. The party’s general secretary, Andrei Turchak announced that the party took more than 40 percent of the voting list that carries 120 deputies and the candidates who belong to the party won 196 seats in the dry majority vote. In the outgoing Duma, united Russia had 334 seats, in this new Duma the party could count on 315 seats. Turchak defined the electoral campaign, in which there was no opposition, as “one of the most transparent”. “There have been no significant violations”, he added, underlining that the party has deployed “more than 100,000 observers to the polling stations”. The vote was not monitored by international and independent OSCE observers.
“Russia, Russia!” and “We are Putin’s team,” the president’s supporters shouted in the streets of Moscow, waving the flags of the ruling party despite the rain. The outcome of the elections was a “day of celebration”, commented the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin. Putin did not go to campaign headquarters in Moscow because he is in self-isolation after dozens of his entourage were infected with the coronavirus. The opposition that revolves around activist Alexei Navalny has spoken of electoral fraud, reporting widespread violations . According to the Interfax news agency, election officials received at least 750 allegations of fraud during the vote, while independent observers from the Golos organization listed thousands of irregularities nationwide, most of them documented in photographs and video footage. On the last day of the legislature, Navalny’s supporters accused Google of blocking access links to Google Docs used by the activist’s movement to spread the list of anti-Kremlin candidates.
