Covid China, outbreak in Xiamen: 4.5 million people in lockdown

An outbreak of covid cases in Xiamen, in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujan, prompted the authorities to impose a lockdown on the city of 4.5 million inhabitants last night. According to local authorities, citizens are forbidden to leave the house except in exceptional circumstances and all leisure activities are closed in an attempt to curb the increase in infections caused by the spread of the Delta variant. In Xianmen, home to several electronics component companies, such as ABB Ltd. and Schneider Electric SE, 32 new cases of coronavirus were recorded yesterday.
