The Crimean War, which pits Russia under Tsar Nicholas I and the allied armies of Turkey, France and England, is the largest international conflict after the Napoleonic wars and is considered the first modern war: it is the first that is documented by a correspondent and a photographer; the first employing effective, rifled firearms; the first that uses a body of nurses to assist the wounded. The Crimean War will be retraced by Professor Adriano Roccucci and Paolo Mieli in “Passato e Presente”, broadcast tomorrow at 1.15pm on Rai3 and at 8.30pm on Rai Storia. In response to an attempted Russian expansion at the expense of the Ottoman Empire, the Allies encircle the Tsar’s army in Sevastopol, on the Black Sea, where the Russian fleet is moored. Decimated by cholera, they begin an exhausting siege that will last more than a year. Even small Piedmont enters the war, at the end of winter, to ensure fresh forces for the exhausted allied armies. Cavour will thus be able to sit at the peace table and plead the cause of Italian independence in an international forum, forging an important alliance with France. The price of Russian defeat will be nearly one million deaths and will give Europe a taste of what awaits it with the First World War. Tami Oldham and her boyfriend Richard Sharp are young, in love and dream of a life of adventures together. The journey touches Massachussetts, where the Pilgrim Fathers landed in 1620 in search of a new freedom, while tiny Rhode Island and Connecticut are the next stops, with stops in fascinating places like Hyannis, Nantucket and Cape Cod. Opera without an author ‘- on Rai Storia’ In the middle of the journey ‘Rai Movie (digital terrestrial channel 24) will broadcast the film “Opera without an author” by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck tomorrow at 9.10 pm. From the director of “The Lives of Others” a passionate love story, a film about art and history. Inspired by real events, Opera without an author tells three eras of German history through the intense life of the artist Kurt Barnert, played by Tom Schilling, from his passionate love for Elisabeth, to the complicated relationship with his father-in-law, the ambiguous Professor Seeband who, disapproving of his daughter’s choice, tries to end the relationship between Kurt and Elisabeth. What no one knows is that their lives are already linked by a terrible crime committed by Seeband decades earlier. Hell of the Divine Comedy. The video, entitled “In the middle of the journey”, broadcast tomorrow at 10.30 pm on Rai Storia, was shot entirely and, for the first time, inside the Domus Aurea. Along with him a few other voices: his gallery owner, his assistant, his partner, the people who have shared his professional career, his artistic choices and his life in recent years. In his works pigments, powders and golds, thanks to a secret technique, generate a deep and immersive spatiality. The results are amazing due to the inexpressible landing on a form of absolute abstraction. Spalletti, who passed away in 2019, represented Italy at the 1997 Venice Biennale, participated in Documenta in 1982 and 1992 and shared an exhibition with Haim Steinbach at the Guggenheim in New York in 1993.
