After a long warm-up lap, the socialist mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, launches into the race for the Elysee Palace on Sunday, September 12 in Rouen, a candidacy which is in addition to the many already listed on the left. It is on the docks, in the city of the young socialist mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, a relative, that Anne Hidalgo chose to speak on Sunday morning: an ideal site to illustrate industrial reconversion through ecological transition, which will be one of the central themes of his campaign. Rouen also allows to give “A national dimension” to his candidacy, to respond to the trial in Parisianism that is being done to the one who has been at the head of the capital since 2014.

Anne Hidalgo will be surrounded by a large part of her campaign team, mayors and parliamentarians from all over France, like Johanna Rolland, mayor of Nantes, who will be her campaign director, or the president of the Occitanie region, Carole Delga. Currently credited with 7% to 9% of the vote according to the polls, Anne Hidalgo recalls that she was also given the loser in Paris.

A campaign entry and a book

“We were convinced that it would not move if she did not have a clear candidacy”, explains his entourage. His speech will allow him to expose “Why she is launching and for which project”. His statement comes three days before the release of his book A french woman (Editions de l’Observatoire), where she reveals her vision of France and some of her priorities. Outraged “Ecological transition”, which should not be done “To the detriment of the middle classes and popular categories”, she wants to attack “To inequalities” and allow everyone to “Live better from your work everywhere in France”, as she had explained in front of several hundred elected left in July, in Villeurbanne.

Multiplication of applications on the left

According to Senator Rémi Féraud, “It is the fall which will determine which candidate will carry a dynamic”, faced with the multiplication of contenders on the left, including those of the “rebellious” Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the ex-socialist Arnaud Montebourg, the communist Fabien Roussel and the candidate from the environmentalist primary at the end of September.

“The challenge for the next few months will be to build a credible alternative”, he believes, emphasizing the international stature of the mayor of Paris, “Its socialist and environmentalist political setting”, which she was able to highlight in the management of the capital, “His ability to campaign” and the support of the Socialist Party.

Anne Hidalgo will have to go through an internal vote of socialist activists, after the Socialist Party congress at the end of September, to distinguish herself from her potential competitors, including the mayor of Le Mans, Stéphane Le Foll.
