During the preparation of the Košice housing estate Luník IX for the visit of Pope František, they painted the wall of one of the panel houses with flowers.

The Roma settlement Luník IX in Košice is preparing for the visit of Pope Francis. The picture of the facade of the residential block painted on September 8, 2021 in Košice.

The project of masonry painting, based on designs by local children, is the collaboration of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Luník IX, the Street Art Communication Association in Košice and ETP Slovakia. TASR informed Rastislav Hamráček about it on behalf of the Salesians.

“The mural painting depicts flowers growing from the cracks of a building. They express beauty and tenacity, which is able to assert itself even in difficult conditions, “said co-author Michal Žák, adding that painting” highlights human value and beauty, regardless of the conditions in which it lives “. The work is also intended to respond to the thoughts of Pope Francis, who often turns his attention to the places where the needy live. According to Hamráček, the design of the flowers is based on intensive several weeks of cooperation with local Roma children, who created the drawings at an art workshop.
