The mysterious robbery without loot in the Tarradellas Archive of the Poblet monastery

The Mossos d’Esquadra investigate an alleged robbery with force in the Tarradellas Archive of the Poblet monastery (Tarragona) where the thieves have burst a fireproof cabinet that contained personal documentation of the former Catalan president, Josep Tarradellas, such as a DNI or his passport. The belongings remain scattered on the ground waiting for the investigators to take the relevant fingerprints. The entry occurred this weekend, when the file was closed. The authors have neutralized the security system of the monastery, as confirmed to NIUS by those responsible for the monastery, who have noticed the entrance when opening the facility this Monday morning. Precisely, Junqueras took care of this file during his departure when he was serving a sentence for the ‘procés’ sentence. The thieves have not taken valuable historical documents nor have they broken into the abbot’s safe, according to sources from the monastery who are working with the Catalan police to determine if any documents have disappeared. First robbery of the fund in 41 years of archiveIt is the first entry that occurs in the Tarradellas Archive since its inauguration in 1981. The Catalan politician gave his documentary collection to the Tarragona monastery with files that cannot be made public until after 50 years of his death , which was in 1988. Josep Tarradellas was president of the Catalan Generalitat in exile, from 1954 to 1977, when he returned to Barcelona. The Central Historical Heritage Unit of the Mossos d’Esquadra will take charge of the investigation, once the stolen documentation is determined. Sources from the monastery assure that, for the moment, they do not miss any document and are surprised by the sophisticated entrance without apparent loot. AMTM) was incorporated into the Poblet Monastery Archive in 1981 by the will of Josep Tarradellas y Joan himself, who deposited and transferred his bibliographical and documentary collections to the monastic community of Santa María de Poblet. The President Tarradellas collection is made up of an important documentation related to the civil war, exile and the reestablishment of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The AMTM also includes other bibliographical and documentary collections donated by other people related to the social and political life of Catalonia, most of them contemporaries of President Tarradellas. The center that bears the name of Montserrat, the daughter of Tarradellas, is located in the former Abbot’s Palace, a building located outside the walled enclosure of the Benedictine community and occupies three floors of the west wing.
