From the organizer’s point of view, increased energy prices can affect the season. Snow cannons and reflectors are part of the events, almost no race can do without artificial snow, and poor visibility sometimes forces the slopes to be illuminated with sharp floodlights even during daytime races. Against the backdrop of exploding electricity and gas prices, huge costs threaten the organizers. The International Ski Federation is concerned about this and wants to prevent the cancellation of competitions. FIS therefore appealed to those responsible to reduce the use of reflectors to a minimum. Shortening the lighting time or reducing power are ways to save energy. The cancellation of some races will be unavoidable FIS General Secretary Michel Vion, however, admitted that the cancellation of some races will be unavoidable. Night slaloms in particular came into the center of attention. “We don’t have a plan B right now,” Vion added. This season, female skiers will have 42 individual competitions, eleven slaloms and downhills, ten “turns”, nine super-G and one parallel.
