The winner of the German book prize shaves her head on stage – Le Figaro

Devoted for her first novel Blutbuch, non-binary author Kim de l’Horizon expressed her support for women protesting in Iran. Non-binary author Kim de l’Horizon, born in Switzerland, shaved her head on stage after winning the prestigious German Book Prize on Monday, in a show of solidarity with women protesting in Iran. “This prize is not just for me,” said the author at the presentation of the German Book Prize (Deutscher Buchpreis) in Frankfurt, ahead of the Frankfurt Book Fair, the largest in the world, scheduled for Wednesday to Sunday. “Non-binary narrator” “I think the jury chose this text also to send a signal against hatred, for love and for the fight of all those people who are repressed because of their bodies” , said the moustachioed author, award-winning for her first novel, Blutbuch (Book of Blood). After singing a song, she took out an electric razor and shaved her head on stage. The jury said they were “inspired” by the novel, featuring, “with tremendous creative energy”, a “narrator non-binary”. The German book prize rewards the best German-language novel of the year and is endowed with a prize of 25,000 euros. Iran has been rocked by a wave of protests since the death a month ago of Mahsa Amini, 22 years after his arrest by the vice squad. Many artists have shown themselves, especially on social networks, cutting a lock of hair in solidarity with the struggle of Iranian women.
