The 45-year-old actor was on the verge of death in the past, which also affected him psychologically. “I was very lucky to survive,” he says. Only today he spoke about his most difficult moments in life: He stood on on the brink of death…The accident that marked Orlando Bloom so much happened many years ago, but he still remembers it very vividly. “When I was 19, I fell out of a third-story window and broke my back,” he said for UNICEF. “I was very lucky that I survived the fall and that my spinal cord was still intact. For the first four days they told me that I might never walk again. That was really the beginning of a long and painful journey to recognize and understand some of the patterns that were in my life that led me to many accidents,” he explained. “And the culmination was breaking my spine, which was a near-death experience.” The actor subsequently underwent spinal surgery and a complicated recovery journey awaited him. During this period, a brace became part of him, which he had to wear constantly. Last year, he shared a photo of himself wearing it on Instagram. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. In his post, the actor also writes that he is grateful every day for the feeling in his limbs and that he can constantly push his boundaries in life. “I would say the first few months after the fall were a pretty dark time,” he admitted further. “As someone who had always been very active in life, it suddenly felt very limiting and it hurt a lot,” he says, referring to his mental health. Orlando realizes that he literally narrowly escaped death in his youth and is very happy that he can have a contented life. In his case, it is certainly true that bad experiences move a person further. The actor remained active, plays sports, is doing well in his personal life and in his career, but he does not forget that he didn’t have to be here anymore. He also knows that from one day to the next a person can fall to the bottom – both physically and mentally, but it is important to get up again with humility and gratitude.
