The government is looking for a recipe to tame the wild energy surge. At the beginning of the year, they signed an agreement with Slovenské elektrárňa for the supply of 6.15 terawatt hours of electricity for households. It is currently awaiting approval by the European Commission, which may not come until November. Therefore, plan B is also being prepared. Last week, the backup plan took real shape. In the first reading, the Parliament agreed on an amendment to the laws that will make it possible to declare a state of emergency and order companies to whom and under what conditions they should supply electricity and gas. By changing the legislation, the cabinet could declare a state of emergency not only in the case of a lack of energy, but also in a situation where their price is so high that they become unaffordable for customers and can threaten the security of the state, health and life of citizens or cause significant economic damage.
