I am honored to return to TD Garden today to sign a one-day contract with the Boston Bruins and officially end my career with the team that has meant so much to me and my family. So many people have contributed to my success, including all of you, and I look forward to thanking everyone properly this afternoon. Thank you Big Zee,” he wrote on his Instagram. Chara ended his career at the age of 45. He was drafted into the NHL in 1996 in the third round by the New York Islanders. He played in the professional league a year after the draft, and three years later he was already the assistant captain of the team. From the 2001/02 to 05/06 season, he wore the Ottawa Senators jersey, with the exception of the lockout year. In 2006, he signed a contract with the Boston Bruins, where he became a club legend. He was the captain for all fourteen seasons, led the team to the Stanley Cup and won the Norris trophy for the league’s best defenseman. He left Boston before the 2020/21 season, which he played for the Washington Capitals, last year he was part of the New York Islanders. Although it was speculated for a long time that he would last one more season, he finally decided to hang up his skates for good. In addition to the above-mentioned achievements in the NHL, he became Slovak hockey player of the year six times and won two silver medals at the World Championships.
