Terna and Adr together for the energy transition of the Roman airport hub

A partnership to share knowledge, experiences and best practices in order to facilitate the transition of Fiumicino and Ciampino airports to smart energy hubs, thanks to the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and processes from the point of view of innovation and sustainability. This is foreseen by the ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ signed today in Rome between Terna, operator of the national high voltage electricity grid with approximately 75,000 km of lines, and Aeroporti di Roma, the company that manages both of the capital’s hubs. The projects are concentrated in four main technological clusters identified by the Industrial Plan: Digital (intelligent solutions for energy and power management), Energy Tech (innovative solutions that use more efficient and green technologies), Advanced Materials (research and development for the use of eco-compatible materials with a reduced impact on the environment), Robotics (initiatives for the automation of processes). Aeroporti di Roma has long been committed to innovation and sustainability, with a development plan from 10 billion euros of investments, to encourage the use of digital technologies and allow intelligent and sustainable growth of the airports of the capital. In this context, the airport management company has set itself the ambitious goal of eliminating CO2 emissions by 2030, at least 20 years ahead of the sector’s international targets, and of gradually reducing the emissions associated with the activity. airport. Recently, the installation of the first ultra-fast charging station for electric vehicles in Fiumicino, powered by 100% renewable sources, is the first step in an impressive program that envisages the overall installation of over 5,400 charging points by 2031.
