Dynamic Island: Apple didn’t invent anything, LG had already had the idea – Journal du geek

If Apple made an impression with Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro, it’s not totally new. Seven years ago, LG had already imagined a similar function on its V10. During the presentation of the iPhone 14, a feature caught our attention. With the Dynamic Island, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max offer themselves a novelty that arouses a certain curiosity. The end of the notch at Apple was hoped for, but the Californian firm has once again created a surprise by standing out from the Android universe. While most manufacturers opt for a punch for aesthetic reasons, the Cupertino giant has decided to make it a feature in its own right. This new space, at the top of the screen, transforms a physical constraint into a software asset; to interact with notifications and activities. A novelty that does not go unnoticed and which was not really invented by Apple. Before Apple, LG then HTC tried Like the Phandroid site, we have already seen this function on Android smartphones. As early as 2015, LG became one of the first manufacturers to integrate a secondary screen into its V10. The latter was then used to display practical information; such as notifications, a shortcut bar, a calendar or manage your music. The screen worked independently and could even stay on constantly. HTC had followed in the footsteps of its South Korean rival by also opting for an additional screen on its HTC U Ultra. Back then, the notion of a ‘second’ screen was radically different from what we see today with a Surface Duo or via Concepts. The objective was to offer a new way of interacting with your smartphone, as Apple imagines today with Dynamic Island. Perceived as a gadget, it did not impose itself and depended too much on the direction chosen by its manufacturer. Both LG and HTC were then losing ground, far from Samsung or Apple and the ambitions of Chinese groups. In addition, it was a real screen to which the South Korean manufacturer wanted to give (too) much importance. By adding shortcuts or buttons, this tiny screen could sometimes duplicate the main screen, which is much larger and more comfortable. “The HTC U Ultra has a second screen to access the most useful information at a glance,” explained the brand when it released its smartphone. © HTC Apple or the art of sweetening the pill If the basic idea is the same, it is on how to integrate it that Apple wants to stand out. There is no question of opting for a second screen, but of playing with the cutout that Apple offers on its iPhone 14 Pro. The Dynamic Island attracts attention and must occupy a central role in this new generation. Finally, and as often on the side of Cupertino, we preferred to watch the Android competition wipe the plaster before launching. Redesigned, the “dynamic” notch may finally become a hot item – on both iPhone and Android – after drawing so much criticism.
