Poll: The opposition has accepted Mikulc, the coalition believes in him – Startitup

Among the currently discussed topics in Slovakia is also the dismissal of the Minister of the Interior, Roman Mikulc (OĽANO). This proposal was initiated for the seventh time by the opposition party Smer – Social Democracy (Smer-SD). The group of Smer-SD MPs justifies its proposal by inferring political responsibility towards Mikulec for suspicion of corruption, abuse of authority of a public official and failure to manage the assigned department. According to them, the minister is manipulating the investigation of major cases. Our editors therefore decided to find out how the members of the National Council themselves evaluate the work of the Minister of the Interior. Several politicians answered this question for Startitup. Opposing opinions As Minister of the Interior, Mikulec has, among other things, a huge influence on the functioning of the Slovak police. According to the vice-chairman of the Smer-SD party Erik Kaliňák, the police in Slovakia are politicized thanks to him. As Kaliňák claims, the police officers have “a lack of all the material security they need”. “When I listen to elite investigators calling the Minister of the Interior a king, I know that the police is totally politicized,” continued Kaliňák. MP Kristián Čekovský (OĽANO) explained to us that the work of the current Minister of the Interior and the Slovak Police is “one of the greatest assets of the functioning of Minister Roman Mikulc”. According to him, however, he is not afraid to point out certain mistakes. If it is necessary to name that something is not good, then I will say so,” he continued. Free hands of the police Another member of parliament Jarmila Halgašová (SaS) spoke for Startitup. Although he primarily deals with topics related to the economy, in the case of the Department of the Interior, he does not have any information about “failing.” says Halgašová. MP from OĽANO György Gyimesi pointed out that the work of the police, under the current leadership, was best evaluated by the police president. He explains that “the police have their hands untied, the police act within the limits and within the meaning of the law, and it is clear that those who are being investigated simply do not like it”. “We politicians should not comment on the work of the police and the work of law enforcement agencies. That’s what law enforcement is for,” Gyimesi continued. Since an extraordinary meeting on the dismissal of Mikulco was taking place today, the Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic Milan Krajniak refused to comment. He said this at the beginning of today’s extraordinary meeting of the National Council of the Slovak Republic aimed at expressing no confidence in the minister. Fico admitted that the repeated proposals to dismiss Mikulco are already “inflationary”, but the minister always does something that cannot be responded to otherwise. “You are needlessly traumatizing coalition MPs.
