THE FIRST SNOW in Slovakia: It snowed on Lomnicky štít. The temperature dropped to -6 °C – iMeteo.sk

Officially, it is still summer, and the first snow fell on Lomnické štít already in the first half of September. During the night from Sunday to Monday, the temperature dropped to -6 °C. Astronomical autumn will start on September 23, so officially we still have summer here, even if the current weather does not correspond to warm summer days. A dry and relatively cold morning prevails in Slovakia, and in the air you can feel that summer is irreversibly coming to an end. Today at 4:00 a.m. the temperature on Lomnicki štít dropped to -6 °C. Since it was raining on the mountains, the precipitation fell in solid form at the highest points of the mountains. Windstorm and snowfall in the Tatra Mountains By morning, the Tatra Mountains were white for the first time this year. A thin layer of snow, approximately 1 cm high, was formed on the Lomnicki štít. In addition to light snowfall, a gale also raged in the highest locations of the Tatras. The wind speed reached up to 29 m/s in gusts, which translates to over 100 km/h. Temperatures are below freezing even in the morning. At 9:00 a.m. it is -2.3 °C on Lomnicki štít and foggy weather prevails, but no more snow. In Slovakia, today we recorded the first snow of the upcoming winter season. Starting today, we can expect snowfall in the Tatras in the coming days as well.
