A fire destroyed an animal store in the northern commercial area of ​​Le Mans (Sarthe), this Sunday, we learn in Ouest-France. The damage caused the death of all the animals housed in the structure. “The whole building was charred. About 950 m2 of store burned down,” the gendarmerie told AFP, adding that the incident did not cause any injuries. The fire broke out at the back of the Animalis store, located in the town of La -Chapelle-Saint-Aubin, north of Le Mans. A total of 157 pets and more than 4,000 fish lost their lives. Among the pets, according to Ouest-France, there are chickens, reptiles, rodents and birds. Access to the site is prohibited The site was evacuated due to the risk of an explosion. According to the Sarthe firefighters, the fire broke out shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday, mobilizing 35 people and around fifteen vehicles. At 3 p.m., the fire was under control, reports Ouest-France, which specifies that the site is still forbidden to access. The fire soldiers aimed to limit the flames which threatened neighboring signs in the commercial area. They should still work for several hours. The origin of the fire remains to be determined. “All the analyzes are in progress”, added the gendarmes, while an investigation was opened. In January 2022, a fire had affected a Jardiland store in the city of Bernay, in Eure, according to Ouest-France. Fortunately, the tragedy did not cause any injuries and did not affect any animals. Only the structure of the building, the pottery, and the soil had then gone up in flames.
