The purchase of Slovenské elektrární is one of the extreme solutions to the energy crisis, says Matovič – Topky.sk

“One of the solutions is that we will try to come to an agreement with the current shareholders to buy back a share in Slovenské elektrárne. We know that at one time Dzurinda and Mikloš sold this share criminally, and Fico (Smer-SD) could have sold it ten years ago buy it back. However, he criminally did not use the right of pre-emption, and today all people are paying for it,” said Matovič. Matovič announces a combination of traditional and bureaucratic government, experts have already been approached, but the Minister of Finance does not know how much it would cost to buy out a private share in SE. “There are auditing companies that would value the share to determine the price,” he said. According to him, the purchase of a share in SE is one of the solutions, but an extreme one. According to him, the most likely solution to the crisis, which is also being considered in the EU, is to limit the profits of electricity producers from nuclear sources, because the price of uranium as an input raw material for the production of electricity in nuclear power plants has so far only increased minimally. According to Matovič, SEs in the Jaslovské Bohunice nuclear power plant produce one megawatt hour (MWh) for 38 euros, but on the market one MWh costs 520 euros and even a week ago it was at the level of 1000 euros. Citizens would have guaranteed electricity prices of perhaps 10 years, but at the same time it would be possible to guarantee fair electricity prices for the business space as well. Today, the profit for electricity is exported abroad, and in the end Slovaks are poor relatives,” explained Matovič. You can probably agree with that, but let’s do things realistically that make sense and we know how to do them. Today, the country in no way with the given deficits (budget) and with the given development, even in the future, and the impending deficits, it has no room to buy power plants again,” underlined Viskupič. “Talking about the purchase of SE today, when we have indebted this country by about 16 billion euros, may be meaningful, but it does not make sense, because we do not have the money for it. We are solving, for example, if the worst were to happen, a so-called state of emergency, when the state would in some form nationalized the production that is made in Slovakia and ensured the supply of the population or businesses. However, pan-European solutions must first be sought,” added the MP for SaS.
