Vice President Yolanda Díaz has proposed this Monday that a shopping basket be defined with some 20 or 30 products that are guaranteed to citizens. According to her, Díaz would be a “basic, absolutely legal filter that would not violate competition law.” In addition, they will also meet with consumer associations and large retailers. The proposal has not been approved by any political group, nor does it even have the open validation of Podemos, its political coalition partners. From UP they see Diaz’s price cap as sensible, but they prefer a tax on large supermarkets. Diaz has warned that citizens are not only losing purchasing power, but are also experiencing difficulties in maintaining a healthy diet.
