Nuova Codere confirms the improvement trend with revenues of 317.7 million in the second quarter

Nuova Codere, a leading multinational in the private gaming sector, today announced the results for the second quarter of 2022. The company achieved a turnover of 317.7 million euros in this period, reflecting growth of 8.2% compared to to the previous quarter and a recovery of almost 91% of turnover before the pandemic. If the upward trend is maintained and the group expects to reach 2019 levels by the end of the year. This revenue improvement was driven in the physical store by strong performance led by Argentina. For its part, the Mexican unit was affected by the slow macro recovery of that market, as well as by greater restrictions on tobacco and commercial promotions; while, in Spain, the results of sports competitions have reduced the percentage of betting retention. In turn, online business revenue grew by 36% compared to the second quarter of the previous year, driven by Mexico and the good performance of Spain. In relation to the normalized Ebitda, 47.8 million euros were recorded, slightly below the previous quarter (-1.9%), but 29.7 million more than in the same period of 2021. This is due to the Argentina’s strong growth during this period and the lower contribution of Mexico and Spain, largely following the temporary closure of some gaming halls in Mexico, the decline in sports betting revenues due to lower activity since May, as well as the increase in energy spending. Mexico achieved a turnover of 55.4 million in this second quarter, which represents 34% more than in the same period of the previous year. Argentina achieved revenues of 85.9 million, which reinforce the sustained growth in billing and the increase in cost per visit month after month. Spain shows a slowdown in revenue recovery in the quarter mainly due to lower results in the sports betting sector in May. For their part, machine revenues remained stable, while the recovery in bingo was slightly lower than in the previous quarter. Despite this, Spain’s performance this quarter was 88% compared to the same period before the pandemic. Italy is experiencing a steady recovery in revenues from the reopening of theaters, with an increase in revenues of 1.2% compared to the first quarter of 2022. Normalized Ebitda increased compared to the previous quarter by 10.7%, due to mainly of the cost containment strategy implemented in the country. The online business, whose results are presented independently and can be consulted on codereonline.com, achieved 27.4 million in revenues in the second quarter. This represents an annual growth of 36%, led by Mexico and a favorable evolution of Spain. In terms of installed park, as of June 30, 2022, Codere had 44,223 machines, 140 arcades, 1,065 recreation halls, 176 shops of sports betting and 8,226 bars.
