West Nile, in Italy 386 cases and 22 deaths

The number of human cases of West Nile virus infection continues to rise in the last week of surveillance. According to the report of the Higher Institute of Health, since the beginning of June 2022 there are 386 confirmed cases (there were 301 in the last bulletin) in Italy, while there are 22 reported deaths: 13 in Veneto, 4 in Piedmont, 3 in Lombardy and 2 in Emilia-Romagna. Of the total cases, 192 occurred in the neuro-invasive form (23 in Piedmont, 14 in Lombardy, 100 in Veneto, 4 in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, 46 in Emilia-Romagna, 3 in Tuscany, 2 in Sardinia), 61 cases identified in blood donors (6 Piedmont, 17 Lombardy, 24 Veneto, 13 Emilia-Romagna, 1 not indicated), 127 cases of fever (1 Piedmont, 9 Lombardy, 106 Veneto, 8 Friuli-Venezia Giulia, 2 Emilia-Romagna , 1 case imported from Spain) and 6 symptomatic cases (1 Lombardy, 4 Veneto, 1 Friuli-Venezia Giulia). In the same period, 4 confirmed cases of Usutu virus were reported, 3 in blood donors (2 in Friuli-Venezia Giulia , 1 in Piedmont) and 1 case of fever (1 in Emilia-Romagna).
