The 48-year-old former Manchester United player was charged with domestic violence and faces up to five years behind bars. Giggs’ trial lasted four weeks. The jury of seven women and four men could not agree on a verdict even after deliberating for more than 20 hours. The British Crown Prosecution Service now has seven days to decide whether to propose a retrial. According to the prosecution, in November 2020 Giggs assaulted and injured ex-girlfriend Kate Grenville at his home in Worsley. He has also been accused of assaulting Grenville’s younger sister during the same incident and of manipulative or violent behavior towards a former girlfriend in 2017 and 2020. Giggs has pleaded not guilty. During the trial, he admitted that he had a tendency to be unfaithful, but added that he had never physically attacked a woman. The affair of the former outstanding footballer cost him the position of coach of the Welsh national football team. The team was temporarily taken over by Robert Page, who fought with him to participate in the World Championship after 64 years. In June of this year, Giggs officially resigned from the position of coach. Giggs is one of the most famous figures in the history of Manchester United. He played for the “Red Devils” for 23 years, became the English champion 13 times with them and won the Champions League twice. He started 64 matches in the national team.
