The Venice Film Festival has its opening night and first red carpet. European and American stars walked in front of the thronging photographers, and politics also played its part. Pravda, TASR 01.09.2022 08:54 The 79th edition of the International Film Festival opened with a strong message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the film White Noise about the deadly health crisis, misinformation and prescription drugs. On the opening red carpet, there was no shortage of film stars such as Greta Gerwig, Adam Driver or Jodie Turner-Smith. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy sent a videotaped message to the opening ceremony, telling attendees to “not be silent, not to be afraid… and not to remain undefeated against the war in Ukraine.” He described the war as “a horror that lasts not 120 minutes, but already 189 days”.
