On Wednesday, the opposition Smer brought more than 406,000 signatures for the declaration of a referendum on early elections to the Presidential Palace. The office of President Zuzana Čaputová will now check whether the petition signatures meet all requirements and whether 350,000 of them have been verified. That is the minimum number needed to trigger the mechanism that leads to a referendum. Fico himself admitted that they had to throw out several thousand collected signatures because they lacked all the required documents.
