Facebook: an astonishing bug shows you messages from strangers addressed to stars

The platform has been dysfunctional since August 24 in the morning. It allows people to invade the News Feed by posting on celebrity pages. You might not recognize your Facebook Feed this Wednesday morning. For a few hours, the social network has been the victim of a bug that is surprising to say the least, which has the effect of displaying on the news feed of Internet users messages from strangers addressed to pages of celebrities. A technical problem which could therefore concern certified accounts. On the platform, users can send messages to celebrities by clicking on the “mentions” tab of their page. It is the distribution of the latter – normally very limited – which seems to have artificially amplified, among Internet users who follow the pages of these celebrities. Humorous and biased messages On Twitter, hundreds of messages from Internet users using the keyword #facebookdown are accompanied by screenshots showing a newsfeed full of wacky messages. Some users seem to take advantage of the bug in question to post humorous, but also tendentious messages. Aware that these messages will be widely distributed, others use the loophole to promote themselves, with the key – as it is regularly the case on social networks – publications promoting scams, in particular cryptocurrencies. The United States is also affected by this unprecedented Facebook bug. With BFMTV, Facebook confirms that it is “aware” that “some people are having difficulty with their newsfeed”. The company claims to be working to resolve the problem and apologizes to its users.
