The mission will lift off from Launch Complex 39B with the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Monday, August 29. Artemis I will be the first in a series of increasingly complex missions to maintain a long-term human presence on the Moon for decades to come. The primary objectives of Artemis I are to demonstrate Orion’s systems in a spaceflight environment and to ensure safe re-entry, descent, splashdown and recovery, prior to the first crew flight on Artemis II.
