The Council of Ministers has approved this Tuesday to transfer 1,889 million euros of European funds to the autonomous communities to promote the rehabilitation of buildings and the promotion of more efficient social housing, which will allow the creation of some 180,000 new jobs. These funds will contribute, In addition, to the fight against climate change, by reducing the carbon footprint and energy consumption, as explained by the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, in the press conference after the Council of Ministers. According to its data, the aid program will allow the creation of nearly 180,000 jobs for the self-employed and SMEs that are dedicated to the energy rehabilitation of homes with the aim of reducing the consumption of these properties by at least 30%, with measures such as the change of windows or heating and cooling systems to bet on renewable energies. Of the total amount, 1,389 million will be turned over to communities this year for residential rehabilitation actions, and the remaining 500 million, which will be transferred from the year 2023, will go to build some 20,000 social rental homes in energy efficient buildings. These funds are added to the 1,651 million already transferred to the communities, as explained by Transport in a note, with which a total of 3,450 million have been mobilized from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan for housing. Distribution in proportion to the number of households The funds will be distributed among the autonomous communities and cities of Ceuta and Melilla in proportion to the number of households, according to the latest data from the Continuous Household Survey of the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Thus, in 2022 the community that will receive the most money for these purposes will be Andalusia, with 241.27 millions; followed by Catalonia (224.5), Madrid (194.5), Valencian Community (150.3) and Galicia (81.2). They are followed by Castilla y León (75.6 million), the Basque Country (67.5), the Canary Islands (63.7), Castilla-La Mancha (58.5), Murcia (40.8), Aragón (40.2) , Balearic Islands (34.2), Asturias (33.7), Extremadura (32), Navarra (19.1), Cantabria (18), La Rioja (9.6) and Ceuta and Melilla, with around 2 million each one.
