A woman who won $1.7 million says playing the lottery should be labeled with a government health warning – as she described winning the jackpot as a “perverted fairy tale”. Euromillions winner Jane Park says her dream of winning big ended in disaster. Now she wants to sue Camelot, which sold her a ticket at the age of 17. Jane, from Edinburgh, Scotland, claims she was blackmailed and threatened with violence because she won $1.7 million in 2013, The Sun reported. “The lottery should have a health warning similar to smoking and drinking,” she said. “I understand they can’t make winning sound like something terrible, but they have a responsibility not to mislead the public.” Jane, who wants adverts for the game to air later at night, doesn’t think Lotto bosses should wait until a win to warn players they could be in trouble. “Ads should be aired later in the evening and advertising should be out of reach of children,” she said. “It sounds silly, but kids dream of either being famous or winning the lottery, and if it weren’t so glamorous, maybe they’d be more ambitious than gambling,” he says. “People always talk about the lottery as about ‘playing the lottery’, but it’s not ‘gaming’, it’s just gambling, there’s no element of gaming apart from picking a number. It’s not from anyone interested in me, it’s from people interested in money.” “I’m proud that I invested my money wisely and nine years later I’m still living a good life,” she said. “I feel like people are waiting for the day I’m going to be homeless, but I’m not going to let that happen.” A spokesman for the Department for Media Culture and Sport said: “Last year we changed the law to protect young people from the dangers of gambling and raised the minimum age to play the National Lottery from 16 to 18.
