Fines for 10 people who buried cigarette butts on the beach of Platamona, in the province of Sassari. The agents of the local police, in civilian clothes, caught the uncivilized in the act and the sanction arrived for them. In Sassari since 2019 it is forbidden to smoke on the beach, except in the areas specifically indicated and identified, out of respect for the neighbors and for the protection of the environment. The butts, in fact, have a strong polluting impact because they contain highly toxic substances, which are released slowly, creating very serious damage to the ecosystem that last decades. Safe Shores 2022 – this is the name of the local police campaign – started about two weeks ago in the Sassari beaches: Platamona, Fiume Santo, Porto Ferro, Argentiera, Porto Palmas and La Frana. Sixteen officers of the Command patrol them to ensure the safety of bathers. The specially trained staff ensures the protection of the environment, the respect of those civil rules that allow the use of the beach in serenity and the protection against the acts of petty crime that unfortunately are often carried out on the beaches. Agents who ascertain and punish transgressive conduct, such as the abandonment of cigarette butts, as in these cases, and small waste on the beaches, the contrast of phenomena such as the theft of objects and other illicit acts. The service is enhanced at the weekend, when uniformed personnel are added to those in plain clothes, able to observe what is happening without being noticed by any uncivilized or criminals.
