The star Belgian, riding in the yellow jersey for the leader of the race, came into contact with Sagan in the group finish and although the management of TotalEnergies complained to the judges, he was not entitled to protest. Van Aert made good use of his spurt skills. When he felt that later stage winner Dylan Groenewegen was passing him from the left, he closed the line from the right, from where Sagan was catching up to him. The seven-time winner of the green jersey finally had to settle for fourth place. He commented on the maneuver of Van Aert, with whom he has a rich past of conflicts, immediately after crossing the finish line. He pointed his finger at the Belgian and shouted the English profanity “motherf*cker” in his direction. He caught up with Van Aert a few tens of meters from the finish line and patted him on the back appreciatively. “I can’t judge Van Aert’s sprint, that’s what referees are for. You saw it yourself on TV. I’m glad I made it,” said the Slovak at the finish line for overseas media. Van Aert immediately indicated at the start of the Tour that he has come to get the green jersey and will not let anyone take it from him. He has three second places in three stages, and although he is waiting for a win, he has the yellow and green T-shirts. Both rivals, together with the complete Tour caravan, have their first free day on Monday, which they will spend moving from Denmark to France.
