Three people were shot dead. Copenhagen police chief Sören Thomassen informed about it on Monday night, according to Danish media.
He confirmed that a suspect was arrested after the shooting, he is a 22-year-old citizen of Denmark. He had a gun and ammunition with him when he was arrested, but the police are checking whether he fired with another weapon.
The young man is known to the police “but only marginally”, said Thomassen. According to him, it is too early to talk about the motive of the crime.
There is no indication that there are other perpetrators, however, the police are still investigating this version as well. He also does not rule out that it could have been terrorism.
The police received a report of a shooting around 5:30 p.m. One of the witnesses told TV2 that the shooter was wearing dark clothes and was not masked. Another eyewitness said the man fired a long gun.
The Royal Arena, a large multi-purpose hall, is also located near the Field’s shopping centre. A sold-out concert by the British singer Harry Styles was supposed to take place there on Sunday, but according to the media, it was cancelled. Several thousand fans were already in the hall, but they were later informed that the concert would not take place for security reasons.
