In the second phase of the military operation in Ukraine, which has already begun, the Russian army aims to gain full control of the Donbas in the east of the country and over southern Ukraine. According to the TASS agency, this was stated by the Deputy Commander of the Central Military District, Major General Rustam Minnekaev. Dominating southern Ukraine will give Russia further ties with Transnistria, where reports of persecution of Russian-speaking people are coming, Minnekaev said. Transnistria is a separatist pro-Russian republic in Moldova.
