Chinni (Ucb): “More targeted and safer treatments with e-health”

“The purpose of e-health services is to treat, by increasing the appropriateness and safety, but also the accessibility and speed, of the diagnosis and treatment procedures, without forgetting the improvement of continuity and adherence to treatment, regardless from the place where the patients are. We must be aware that these are changes, even radical ones, in medical procedures and organizational processes which, if not managed correctly, can generate insufficient services, rather than progress. In other words, the solutions that can be developed must be practicable on an organizational and economic level, as well as effective on a clinical level. It is the solution of the patient’s problem that gives meaning to all this ”. Thus Federico Chinni, CEO of Ucb Italia, a global biopharmaceutical company focused on the research and development of innovative drugs and solutions, during the webinar: “Digital Health. Innovation in the treatment of chronic autoimmune rheumatological and dermatological diseases “. During the online meeting it emerged that technological innovation has been and is a powerful means for modernizing the health system, capable of intercepting needs in real time and processing an important number of data and information through easy-to-use digital tools. All this can open the doors to a more equitable and accessible future of health, where people, especially the chronically ill, will move less while, on the contrary, data will “travel” to people, making the relationship between doctors, patients, institutions and the territory. In this regard, it was underlined how important it is for Italy to define a model for the development of health care, which takes into account the peculiarities of our country, regional autonomies and local needs. In fact, new organizational needs of assistance services are appearing, where hospitals are increasingly organized as a “network” and territorial services tend to approach the patient’s home. “The role of industry – added Chinni – today is that of foster the meeting between associations, specialists, institutions and share technical and scientific skills in order to find solutions that can have a value for people and for the system. Today there is a great need to find innovative solutions that can make the most of the digital transformation that is taking place. I believe that the development of digital medicine solutions is a top priority for the system today. Especially thinking from the perspective of Pnrr, also because I believe that a lot of the future of the sustainability of our health system is at stake. “For the CEO of Ubc it is very important” to bring together all the players in the system (scientific patient associations, productive world) to dialogue – concluded Chinni – and this can be the contribution we can make, together with skills. There was talk of literacy of citizens and doctors, of interoperability and uniformity. We are studying telemedicine a lot but there are things that we can do as early as tomorrow morning, such as television and teleconsultation, have telemedicine standards, involving the regions from a point of view of responsibility in terms of objectives. From this event I heard a call to action and our role is to encourage, after the discussion, also a concrete call to action to start and try to integrate telemedicine, and more generally digital, within of the health supply chain “.
