Chiulli (Uim), ‘the most important laboratory of sustainability for the Montecarlo motorboat’

Another great success for the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, now in its 8th edition. Organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco, in collaboration with the International Federation of Motorboating (UIM) and the Prince Albert II Foundation of Monaco, the meeting was once again an opportunity to talk about new clean and alternative propulsion systems, also thanks to the support of the partners Iqos and Credit Suisse, supported by BMW and YPI. “It was a very important day for sustainability, for world boating and motor boating”, declared Uim President Raffaele Chiulli. “Here in Montecarlo we experienced a great moment of meeting and exchanging ideas on important issues such as the energy transition and hydrogen propulsion. But the best thing – continued Chiulli – is having seen so many young engineers who want to put into practice innovative solutions, to ensure that there is an ever more sustainable mobility at sea. Like Uim we are proud to have contributed to increasing the protection of the marine environment “. “The importance of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge also attracted other sports federations who came to visit us to find out more. Together with Prince Albert – great ambassador of sustainability, with whom we are proud and honored to be able to collaborate – he came to also find the President of the FIA, Jean Todt “, concluded Chiulli. Among the guests the names of Prince Albert of Monaco, Eng. Marco Casiraghi, former driver Michael Horn and Laurent Mekies, Sporting Director of Scuderia Ferrari. Also of note is the presence of exponents from Estaca, the only French engineering school (founded in 1925) that offers training in 5 transport sectors: aeronautics, automotive, naval, space and guided transport systems. every part of the world – with 32 teams, 22 universities and 17 nationalities attending – made it possible to address the issues with heterogeneity and keen interest, especially on the occasion of the round table “Monaco Hydrogen Working Group”. Between exchanges of views and proposals of various kinds, the participants confirmed once more that hydrogen is the fuel of the future. Not having this need for recharging, in fact, it can be stored and used on request as a green fuel or converted into electricity through a fuel cell. From the point of view of the competition, they were days of entertainment and curiosity for enthusiasts, with the boats competing in the three classes Energy, Solar and Open Sea.At the end of the review, UniBoAT (Italy) was the best in the Energy Class with 1200 points, followed by the Dutch-Monegasque boat E-Racing Team (600) and the French Capgemini Engineering (596). In Open Sea Class the Hynova Team (France) won with 794 total points, while the Monegasque Lanéva Boats (700) and the Swedish Candela (694) completed the podium. Finally, Sunflare Solar Team (Holland) dominated the Solar Class with 1200 final points, ahead of the Swiss Solar Boat (769) and the compatriots of HAN solar Boat (675).
