Spoleto Festival: closes with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia directed by Antonio Pappano

The 64th edition of the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi closes tomorrow Sunday 11 July. The traditional final concert in the Piazza del Duomo is entrusted to the baton of Antonio Pappano who leads the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia. The concert was brought forward to 6.30 pm (instead of 8.30 pm) to allow the public to follow the final of the European football championships, scheduled for tomorrow evening following Italy’s victory in the semifinals. The concert program looks at the relationship between Two Worlds – East and West – and at mutual musical inspirations and suggestions. The charm of landscapes, customs, sounds and customs associated with the countries of the Mediterranean shores finds traces in the exoticism of Rossini’s Symphony from L’Italiana in Algeri, and in the thousand and one nights atmospheres of the symphonic suite by Rimskij-Korsakov Sheherazade, and the more recent violin Concerto ‘1001 Nights in the Harem’ by the Turkish composer and pianist Fazil Say, performed for the occasion by Friedemann Eichhorn, one of his most refined interpreters. On the program the sonata in F minor op. 120 n. 1 for clarinet and piano, the one in E minor for cello and piano and the trio p. 114 for clarinet, cello and piano. Also tomorrow at 3 pm, in San Simone, Lucia Ronchetti’s Inferno Opera-film retraces the first cantica of the Comedy in a new musical theater production written by the Italian composer commissioned by the Oper und Schauspiel Frankfurt. The verses of the first cantica of the Comedy, in Italian and German, and the music of Lucia Ronchetti directed by Tito Ceccherini join a vast archive of filmed material with singers and actors, produced by director Kay Voges before the suspension of the staging theatrical work in 2020. The digital appointment is included in the program that Spoleto64 has dedicated to the celebrations for the seventh centenary of Dante Alighieri’s death. Last reruns also for the shows that close the theater and dance sections.
